Beautiful Brazil nut shell Agogô!
Two different sized spherical Brazil nut shells on a wood stick.
Very pretty and warm sound!
Especially capoeiristas like the sound character and -intensity of this natural agogô which goes well with Berimbau and Pandeiro.
The size of the shells is about 7 to 10 cm.

Marcos China RIO
Marcos, nicknamed 'China', lives in Rio. He is a capoeirista, musician and an instrument maker. Marcos used to live in France for many years and was very successful with his Band 'Tupi Nago'.
Back in Rio he started to make Caxixis because he wasn´t able to find any in the quality he wanted. Bit by bit he added other small percussion instruments to his range.
He makes small series of instruments with extraordinary artisanal skills and love to small details. MARCOS CHINA keeps on inventing funny little instruments like the caixa de mesa, the saculegé or a minishaker made of plastic parts of PET bottles.
MARCOS CHINA berimbaus are highly appreciated amongst capoeiristas as well as percussionists.

schönes, natürlich klingendes Instrument
authentischer gehts nicht und wahnsinn wie groß Paranüsse sind! Rohes, von der Natur gestimmtes Instrument mit viel Charakter, perfekt für Capoeira und als Bandeffekt.

Meine Agogo von Marcos China RIO
Meine Agogo von Marcos China RIO ist klanglich der Hammer. Bei meinem Exemplar sind die Paranuss-Schalen sehr weit geschlossen und die Schalen außen unbehandelt. Das gibt einen vollen Klang mit sanften Anschlag. Der Klang wird noch besser wenn ein dickerer Palisander-Klangstab als Schlegel verwendet wird (z.B. Sonor LCL 3 Claves). Dagegen kommt meine tolle Agogo von Mestro Negao auf den zweiten Platz. Diese ist lackiert und hat daher einen härteren Anschlag. Der Klang ist nicht so voll, weil die Nüsse offener sind. Diese Agogo gewinnt aber gewaltig im Klang mit meinem dicken Palisander-Klangstab von Sonor als Schlegel. - Das Bauprinzip von Mestre Negao motiviert zum Eigenbau... Meine ersten Versuchen mit Agogos im Eigenbau mit Hammerstiel, Schrauben aus dem Baumarkt und Paranuss-Schalen aus dem Dekoladen führen nicht zu diesen tollen Klangergebnissen, weil ich bisher nicht so schöne geschlossene Paranuss-Schalen bekommen habe. - Die Haptik eines deutschen Hammerstiels ist aber besser als die brasilianischen Versionen ;-)
