Dudu Tucci plays Contemporanea

Dudu Tucci is the new endorser for CONTEMPORÂNEA Percussion Instruments

Dudu Tucci and Contemporânea both come from Sao Paulo. Dudu grew up in Vila Madalena, the district where Contemporânea used to manufacture their products and still run a large store. And now, after having become one of the most virtuosic and well-respected brazilian percussionists and teacher of inumerable drummers throughout whole Europe, their paths cross anew! Contemporânea, with its long tradition of outstanding instruments and Dudu Tucci, an outstanding percussionist...a perfect fit! And we from Kalango are really looking forward to a synergistic teamwork!

Dudu Tucci and Kalango will be presenting short video films with Dudu in loose intervals. These films aim to professionally introduce the typical brazilian instruments from Contemporânea.

As opening Dudu plays a Samba Groove in the typical "em cima" technique on the Malacacheta 12" x 20cm. The caixa is held upright in the crook of the arm, the pattern lies on the strong hand and the other hand supplements the dream notes. Attention! Dudu is left handed!

A virtuosic conga solo! Dudu just spins over the brandnew Contemporânea congas with his matchless technique and shows what they are capable of.

If this has aroused your interest into playing conga: in the new Drums&Percussion magazin you will find the first part of Dudus Conga Workshops, which establish a sound basis for a good conga technique with help of simple exercises and rhythmes. Drums&Percussion offers a free ITunes app with a free of charge download under: http://itunes.apple.com/de/app/drums-percussion/id434355921?mt=8

It will of course take quite a while until you will be able to play like Dudu...but if you are interested in checking out the new Contemporânea congas, we from Kalango are trying to make them available for the european market and will keep you updated on our progress!

A Pandeiro - 'the' pocket drumset! Dudu introduces a combination of various rhythmes from the Northeast of Brazil on the Contemporânea goatskin head Pandeiro. The swing of the Baião and the syncopes of the Maracatu melt into a complete new and complex rhythme.

Since more and more timbal players demand the possibility to tune their instrument higher and higher, Contemporânea offers an aluminium timbal with 16 tension hooks in Brazil. The large amount of hooks help to evenly spread the immense tension needed for the high tunings over the whole drumshell.

This makes the timbal a phantastic solo instrument, which can easily prevail within a bateria when played with a good technique. We are also trying to get this very special instrument for our assortment.

Pandeiro Choro 10''
Choro Pandeiro 10'' - the top modell by Contemporanea!Superlight pandeiros have a differently contructed type of tension hoop: it is made of flat material. The skin is pulled over a piece of wire and not pressed into a ring like usually, that saves weight! The 5 pairs of jingles are made of strong brass producing the Choro-typical tinkling sound. Each pair has a thin brass interleaf inbetween. The transparently varnished wood frame is ornamented with handmande inlay ornaments looking especially beautiful with the gold-plated tension hooks and and nicely picked hide heads.Light pandeiros are especially suitable for playing the Marcos Suzano technique!A light pandeiro is a good choice for pandeiristas of any level! If you are just starting to play the pandeiro, your muscles will have to build up in order to hold the pandeiro in the right playing position. With a too heavy pandeiro you will lose your motivation soon and holding it is very tiring. Advanced players and professional percussionists have a stable technique and can take full advantage of a light instrument!A very aesthetic high quality pandeiro with great sound and excellent design - all in all a very successful pandeiro!

The result? A bold sound with plenty of volume, further enhanced by the deep shell.

Timbal aluminium 14''x70cm
Timbal 14'' x 70 cm - 16 hooks, varnished woodThe new trend from Salvador da Bahia: a timbal with 16 tension rods. This timbal easily pitches up high for the authentic Bahia sound. The 16 tension rods spread the force of the pressure evenly onto the body. The instrument is made of varnished plywood sheets.Theoretically you can pitch this timbal up the same as an aluminium timbal with 16 hooks, nevertheless, it sounds nicer and warmer if you leave some of the characteristic low tuning which makes a wood shell sounds especially pretty. The timba is well-made and of the reliable Contemporanea standard, robust and suitable for street gigs and parades! The rim is smoothed out neatly and equipped with a hand-friendly chromed comfort rim. On the inside level where the tuning position is, an additional reinforcement ring is inserted. All Contemporanea timbals come with super nylon heads which have a special fibreglass layer on the reverse side. Those heads produce a full and open sound with only few overtones. As it is the case with many other wood instruments, the sound is generally a bit warmer and not as sharp-sounding as aluminium instruments.
