Inspired by Public Enemy and their record 'Fear of a Black Planet', Marcos Suzano transferred one of the backbeats to the pandeiro and uses it as a reference for his funky grooves. A big grin spreads across his face as he tells how he formed his first funky rhythms on the pandeiro, beats that opened doors to new musical worlds. In this course one of Suzano's greatest strengths becomes visible, namely to combine traditional Brazilian music with modern styles. He draws parallels to the classical styles, transfers his playing technique to the modern beats, gives lots of tips and tricks and also shows simple rhythms with intermediate and advanced variations. If you like electronic music or if you want to experiment e.g. by recording or editing electronic beats with digital workstations or software sequencers, the pandeiro Jungle beat in this course will provide a very compatible basis. The extra 'electric pandeiro' offers more suggestions and examples. In the section about Reggae beats Marcos shows range from classic Samba Reggae rhythms to exercising laid-back beats, shifted syncopation, flames and free playing within a rhythmic frame.
