A simple one-layer nylon head, easy to play and a standard drum head type by Contemporânea - this thinner version of drum heads is extremely responsive with a clean and clear intentionally overtone-rich sound, as thinner heads produce stronger vibration compared to thicker heads. A thin nylon head might be a great option for you if you like clean sound and if you are looking for an easy-to-play head.
A good option e.g. for timbal players whose technique is still not so experienced as the head reacts fast and easy. You can also use it as a regular batter head or also as a resonance head on a Samba Reggae snare drum, and it goes perfectly as superior and/or resonance head on a charuto (14'' repinique). Even for small 14'' surdos, this head is a common option.
You will notice that between putting a new head on and playing on it for a while the sound will change positively. A new head might sound a bit whiny in the beginning, but as soon as it gets used to the tension and the rim of the shell, the sound will settle. As usual - good things are worth waiting for. A thin nylon head is suitable for you if you like the clear and light sound and if you want a head with an easy response.

This brand has a long tradition and good reputation in Brazil. Intensive contact to the musicians has always been an important part of their business strategy. They not only sell instruments, but mainly live their music. Every Saturday morning, many musicians meet up in CONTEMPORÂNEA´S music shop in the historic center of São Paulo. In a special back room, musicians of every age play Choro. The pagodeiros meet up in front of the shop for playing their sessions. Many of São Paulo´s smaller and larger Samba schools play CONTEMPORÂNEA instruments.
CONTEMPORÂNEA in Europe
Also in Europe CONTEMPORÂNEA is a popular brand which you sometimes even find in drum- and percussion shops that don´t have so much to do with Samba.
Instruments
CONTEMPORÂNEA has two lines: CONTEMPORÂNEA LIGHT and CONTEMPORÂNEA PRO.
The instruments of the LIGHT line are made of matt aluminium. Kept in a simple design and not being polished, the LIGHT line can be offered at a lower price and without suffering quality loss in terms of sound or durability. The robust PRO line is made of polished aluminium or wood.
Compared to other brands that also use aluminium for building instruments, CONTEMPORÂNEA instruments made from aluminium stand out by being built of thicker material which provides a massive sound to repinique, caixa and surdo, but therefore also a higher weight.

Gute und solide Felle. Wir nutzen sie auf den Kinder-Surdos, da sie stabiler erscheinen als die Korino-Variante.
