The DVD shows the everyday life of different members of Leão Coroado in Olindas district Aguas Compridas. The film is not only a documentary and music video, but also allows you to take part in rehearsals, prepare for performances and provides wonderful insights into the deep connection of a traditional Maracatus with Candomblé. This connection is particularly evident in the passages with Luiz de França, the legendary Mestre of Leão Coroado, who died in 1997 at the age of 96.
Mestre Alfonso Aguiar, the director of Leão Coroado at the time of shooting, talks about his path to Maracatu. The DVD and the book of the same name are his legacy. Mestre Alfonso died unexpectedly a few days after the release of the DVD.
In addition there are two extras:
Workshop 1 with the typical toques of Leão Coroado, presented individually and in interaction.
Workshop 2 with the rhythms of the Candomblés in Pernambuco is a special highlight.
