The Brazilian banjo is a popular and frecuently used alternative to the cavaco, especially when there is no amplifying available. It has clear and strong mids whilst it is not a lot bigger in its size than a cavaquinho, but a lot louder when unamplified!
The Brazilian banjo is tuned and played like a cavaquinho, a typical speciality is the fast percussive whirling inbetween which enhances the beautiful mid frequencies of this instrument.
