In Candomblé, the ritual rhythms of Brazil are played. They are often complex, have African roots and religious backgrounds. Musically beautiful, colourful and something completely different from what one imagines by Brazilian music. Inspired by Public Enemy and their record 'Fear of a Black Planet', Marcos Suzano transferred one of the backbeats to the pandeiro and uses it as a reference for his funky grooves. A big grin spreads across his face as he tells how he formed his first funky rhythms on the pandeiro, beats that opened doors to new musical worlds. In this course one of Suzano's greatest strengths becomes visible, namely to combine traditional Brazilian music with modern styles. He draws parallels to the classical styles, transfers his playing technique to the modern beats, gives lots of tips and tricks and also shows simple rhythms with intermediate and advanced variations.
