Surdo wood 20''x60cm
Surdo 20'' x 60 cm -laminated wood, nylon headsYou often see wood surdos in small ensembles, stage pagodes or Samba de mesa, but also Samba Pop groups like playing with them.A wooden shell has a warmer sound than an aluminium body. Due to the material it might require more care. We recommend a bag to protect wooden instruments.Otherwise is up to your personal taste: wood is a special material, pretty to look at, pleasant to touch and with a soft sound.Of course wood surdos are also absolutely suitable for bateria playing!

Surdo RIO 20''x50cm Hide heads
Surdo 20" x 50 cm - hide heads with aluminium ring on both sidesOriginal Rio Style Samba surdo - authentic Rio style sound! The RIO line surdos with its 50 cm shells are shorter than the former 60 cm standard. This reduces weight, doesn't particularly affect the sound in any way and, conveniently, shorter surdos are also easier to handle, to store, to transport - and they're lighter - yay! 50 cm surdos can be seen more and more often in Rio's Samba schools.Tips for happy surdos:Natural skins sound best with the right mallets (hard, unpadded).Tune slowly, especially at the beginning! You may need to retune while playing, this works best if you play with the nuts pointing up and use a crank tuning key.Always loosen the skins after playing. When storing in dry air or during hot-temperature periods, check the skins and loosen them if necessary, as they can tighten considerably.Important note for mounting hide heads:During production, natural skins are mounted damp on a wooden or aluminium ring. When drying, the skins contract, which often causes the ring to warp. If you mount a new skin on your surdo, it will usually be necessary to moisten the skin with a sponge or cloth (not soaking wet, just damp!) so that it stretches again and can be mounted easily. Put the skin on without applying tension and leave it to dry overnight, ideally and without any aids, so that it can adapt to the shape of your surdo. This will prevent it from becoming brittle and you will be able to enjoy your instrument for a long time.

Surdo with legset 20''x60cm Hide heads
Beautiful Samba Pagode wood surdo 20'' x 60cm with legsetWood surdos generally have a warmer, more haptical sound. Other than the sharp sound of aluminium shells which is great for street Samba, musicians and lovers of Samba de Mesa - the indoor Samba version with more wood and hide head instruments - usually prefer instruments with warmer sound qualities which they find with wood shells. Gope has created quite a beauty with this surdo, the shell is solid and well made from laminated wood, the batter head is a hide head with aluminium rim, the resonance head is a thin nylon head. The legset can be mounted for gigs or taken off easy and quick for transportation. Weight:without legset: 6,8 kgwith legset: 8,1 kg Tip:For even better sound quality and stability on stage, we recommend to add the surdo feet shock absorbers (art.nr. A601200) which you can simply slip on the feet of the legset.
