Surdo Light Fundo 22'' x 45 cm, aluminium
XL bass for your bloco! 22" fundos for full-bodied Samba Reggae beats! Our lightest surdo line for Samba Reggae and Afro-Samba!
For sambistas who want a lighter instrument. Gope's Light Surdos are made from specially selected lightweight materials, making them not only lighter but also easier to handle - perfect for dynamic performances. Once you’ve played one, you won’t want to change brand ever again!
The concept? Reduce weight without compromising quality! This surdo is ideal for groups that include lot's of dance and choreography in their performances, for those who play their surdo above their head, or simply for sambistas who prefer to travel light.
All components, such as brackets, rims and metal construction elements, are designed with lightweight construction. The slimmer elementns further reduce the weight, while the welded shell delivers a full, resonant sound. Compared to folded seams, the welded seam enhances the shell's vibration properties, resulting in a richer tone with more shell resonance.
Despite its delicate design, this surdo holds its own against heavier models. While less weight can sometimes mean less durability, our years of experience have proven this design to be both reliable and robust.
"Gope"
GOPE is a family-run business from the area around São Paulo. Today the company is being run in its third generation by the grand daughter of the firm´s founder.
The brand GOPE has been producing drums and smallpercussion instruments for over 50 years now. When the company was founded, there was already a small workshop in which drumsets were manufactured.
In 1962, the production of the typical Samba instruments began, iniciated by Humberto Rodella, the son of the founder. The company kept growing and after several relocations in São Paulo, GOPE finally found the right place for building a large production hall in Embu Guaçu, a suburb of São Paulo.
Since then GOPE produces in Embu Guaçu everything from the Agogô to the Zabumba, a wide range of percussion instruments, and only recently also various wind instruments.
GOPE has always kept in close touch with the musicians. The ideas and proposals for modifications that they received from many of those contacts, have always had much influence in the development of new instruments and improvement of production.
