Xequebalde
Xequebalde - 'shaker bucket' A shaker bucket with rivets - exciting sound elements for creative minds! Xeque- from the word xequeré and -balde from bucket in Portuguese.Once again a wonderfully peculiar instrument from Brazil. It used to be an absolute rarity, but nowadays it can be found more often in Pagode sessions and in the set-ups of leading percussionists. The idea is as simple as it is ingenious: instead of putting a bead net over a gourd, loosely moving screws or rivets are used in a simple metal ''bucket'' shell. By moving the shell back and forth, the screws hit the wall and produce a hissing, metallic sound, remotely similar to that of a xequeré, only louder and sharper. Accents can be made on the bucket with the hands. In addition, if you hold the Xequebalde horizontally with one hand from the inside, or place it upside down on a base, you can use the bottom of the bucket as a playing surface. This way the xequebalde practically functions as a rebolo and a xequerés in one instrument. The xequebalde offers a wide range of different possibilities of use and sound.

Chocalho / Rocar Acústico with aluminium body - 20 pairs of galvanised zinc sheet jingles (55 individual platelets)Now with less weight! The revised model of this chocalho has come with 2 big improvements: the handles are now made of plastic and therefore more comfortable to hold. Much more important is that the manufacturer has reduced the weight to a level that this massive aluminium chocalho in no way stands behind the wooden models. If you are into fat, authentic chocalho sound, you've found the right one!Classical zinc sheet jingles that sound so authentic that you might think you are in a bateria rehearsal somewhere in Rio. An anatomical shaped handel for perfect handling, clean processing and good portion of style with glittering hologram sheeting. The shell of the rocar is completely made of aluminium and weights a little more than the wood modell. To save weight, several large holes are punched out of the middle of the shell. This also amplifies the tone coming from the middle of the instrument and is then thrown back through the apertures. A kind of a sound chamber it is, a chocalho which amplifies itself! The handles are attached to the main body with screws.A loud, penetrant and authentic chocalho!Zinc sheet jingles - great sound but dirty fingers: zinc sheet produces abrasion!

The rocar or chocalho has taken over the former part of the ganzá in all Samba schools. Its loud and penetrant sound creates a strong base for the other instruments. It contributes a high per centage to a good swing in any modern samba bateria and covers the high frequency, the socalled white noise. Different types of chocalhos come as metal frames or wood handle rocars, and also in compact sizes for kids or young sambistas. Typical Rio-Samba style instrument!
