Cuica with inox shell in 10'' - hoop and 10 galvanised steel rodsWell made inox cuica in classical 10'' format and pretty hide head - makes a cuiqueiros heart beat faster instantly! 10 tension rods of zincked steel and a tension hoop painted in brass look. In terms of sound you'll have no problem at all finding your place in any well-sized bateria. This cuica is well made with a simple finish and neatly cut threads. The seam of the body is welded like all Gope instruments. Welded shells produce a higher and more audible part of shell sound than e.g. grooved shells as their shell vibrates better. Cuicas are a great enrichment for any Samba band. It is fun playing and watching them and they also bring a whole new soundscape to a Samba.Tip: If the stick is too thick, grab some sand paper and sand down the bamboo stick carefully until it's thinner. It does get more fragile, but you will find that the cuica will react more easily! With an overall height of 31.5cm, the cuica is unfortunately a tad too high for our 10''x30cm bags.
9'' natural skin – cuica replacement hide head with bamboo stick in aluminum rim by Gope9'' cuica head with pre-installed bamboo stick, ready to play!Tips for cuica skins:Natural hides are delicate. Loosen them after playing and before storing. Keep them at room temperature, away from moisture, heaters, or direct sunlight. Heat and dryness can make them brittle and cause tearing. Let damp skins dry completely (overnight works best) before tuning, and avoid drying with heaters or in the sun.Pro tip:Thick bamboo sticks don’t vibrate well. Sand them down for a thinner, smoother stick to get better sound. Pre-sand spares so you’re always ready!Note on aluminum rings:Warping from temperature or humidity is normal. Lightly moisten a warped head, mount it loosely, and let it air-dry fully before tensioning. Wrinkles will smooth out as the ring adjusts to the drum.Questions? Just ask us!
Chocalho / Rocar with wooden handle - 25 pairs of zinc sheet jingles (50 individual platelets)Wood handle chocalhos are particularly popular as they are comfy to hold with anatomically shaped handles, you can do a lot of show elements like tossing and turning them and also they sound so authentic as if you were right in the middle of a bateria rehearsal in Rio. The instrument comes with shaped handles for perfect grip, simple, natural wood style and is well made and balanced. Pull off some crazy tricks for your audience and do some crazy tosses and flips.Zinc sheet jingles have extraordinary sound but will make your fingers dirty due to abrasion!
12“ hydraulic head - double ply oil head - batter headDue to their thickness and sound characteristics, heads with two plies naturally only function as batter heads. This head type is especially popular amongst drummers and sambistas who like fat sounds with a slow attack and a fast decay. The short, almost non-existant sustain is the result of the double layer of heads which don't vibrate easily and therefore provide a high amount of dampening behaviour. Between the two plies there is a special type of oil which influences the sound characteristics of the head even stronger and reduce the sustain to an absolute minimum. Thicker, double ply heads are also extremely durable. This head will be interesting for you if you like the following sound characteristics:- warm, deep, punchy and short sounds- sustain: very little to none- overtones reduced to a minimum- quick decay (the dropout of the tone from its maximum to 0)- slow attack, doesn't sound too sharp

Surdo light Fundo 22''x40cm aluminium HW chromed
Our lightest Samba Reggae surdos from Gope!Ultra-short shell, crispy, authentic Bahia sound for fat bass sound on street parades or stage gigs. Gope welds its seams instead of folding or riveting them, so the sound can swing even better and unfold more shell-based sound. Lightweight components make this surdo an absolute favourite - minimal weight with high stability and big time bass. The compact Surdo is especially suitable for surdo players who have overhead choreographies, who lift up the surdo with one hand and do a lot of show dancing. But also those who don't want to carry heavy - young samba players or candidates with back problems - will love this model. Once hooked, you'll never want to play a different surdo. The Light line doesn't have quite as much volume as models with thick and heavy shells, but here the emphasis is clearly on the 'extra light'. With thick heads you can add a lot of quality to the Light line surdos. The construction principle is simple: save weight, big sound and a stable, versatile street and stage instrument. This model has a chromed rim.
Our tip for big bass:Replace the ex-factory drumhead with a thicker one, e.g. a GP3, a hydraulic head, a double-ply or an inverted korino head. Thicker skins vibrate less, thicken the attack and bring more sound mass into mix.For the high voices the thin ex-factory head might be just the right head. It can be tuned to exactly the right level with partial masking, damper gel pads or foam rings.
Alfaia - bombo de Maracatu: pure, simple design, hide heads on aluminium rings for easy mount and head exchange Strong, laminated tension hoops hold the hide heads on the wood shell of the bombo which is also made of laminated wood. The shells are unpainted but treated with clear varnish, the simple design leaves all the attention to the craft work and the wood-optic. The alfaias are very light! Good quality, stable nylon ropes are used for the tuning system. Another pro for this series is the hide heads on aluminium rims. Other than hide heads on wood rims, these won't twist out of shape as much and make every head changing quick and easy.

Chocalho / Rocar with aluminium frame - 30 pairs of galvanised steel sheet (60 individual platelets)Original Rio sound! Jingles made of galvanised steel sheet are perfect if the authentic Brazilian sound is important to you. Chocalhos are an relevant musical compontent which cannot miss in any Rio style Samba bateria. Their frequency contribute to a balanced soundscape and add to the stability of the rhythm group with their swing and function as a timekeeper. Their tinkling sound (or also 'white sound') is the musical counterpart to the bass of the surdos and the mids of the repiniques. The aluminium frame has two lateral handles which some sambistas like to wrap with some fabric for more comfort when playing especially during longer sessions. Steelsheet jingles are known for their pure, slightly 'dirty' sound which warms any sambista's heart. Super sound but dirty fingers, as the steel sheet does rub off when playing.Size info for chocalho bags:This model is a few cm too long for our standard chocalho bag. If you want a bag with this chocalho, use the longer modell for wood stick chocalhos art.n°. TAK56

Repique de Mão 11'' aluminium, green - GopeThe repique de mão is the virtuoso whirlwind in every Pagode round. Musically it may not be a must, but it is always a great enrichment. It brings its very own vibes to a Samba de Mesa and is usually played by experienced players who have Samba in their blood and use the syncopations with great creativity. The repique de mão drives the rhythm and brings an incredible swing to the music, which is mainly created by the contrarhythms that are played with one hand on the outside of the shell. The instrument is played across the lap, basically like a rebolo or tan tan, except that it is shorter and has a plastic skin. You play the typical partido alto rhythms with one hand and complementary rhythms with the other. The musical construct is highly percussive and as Brazilian as it gets - many of the syncopated beats are placed off- and double-offbeat. The resulting swing will never let you go again - you‘’ll want to jump up and dance along immediately!

Ultra-light repinique 12'' x 30cm - 7 tension rods, turquoise - GopeThis repinique has 7 tension rods as a special feature, right inbetween the commonly used 6 or 8 lugs, meaning that you can pitch up high without too much weight and use it for Rio Samba and Samba Reggae styles likewise. The shell is made of aluminium, the hardware is powdercoated. Another super feature here is that Gope now uses the extremely slim, small but very sturdy brackets as used for its series of ultralight surdos. The construction of ultralight hardware saves so much weight! The seam of the body is welded. Welded shells have a higher per centage of metal in their sound than folded shells, which comes in particularly handy when playing calls.

Gope is known for its lightweight construction and beautiful powder-coated finish.Gope focuses on lightweight construction and uses slightly thinner aluminum for the shells compared to other brands. Head 20'' korino ( synthetic nappa leather) - GopeNappa or korino heads are multi-ply synthetic layers of artificial leather and nylon. The attack is reduced by the additional layer and the sound becomes warm and bassy. Too many korino heads in a bloco or a bateria will blur the sound. Korino heads sound best when used on a few surdos, but not all. Korino heads are only suitable as batter heads. The construction of the korino on top of the nylon head layer reacts quite sensitively to surdo beaters that are too hard. If the beater head is too hard, the top korino layer will dent and no longer lie flat on the bottom nylon layer, making it unable to produce a consistent tone and causing the head to break. We therefore recommend using only soft or medium-hard but always well-padded beaters on korino heads.

Surdo Light, Dobra 14'' x 45 cm, AluminiumOur lightest surdo line for Samba Reggae and Afro-Samba!The compact 14'' size is perfect for kids or young sambistas who need a lighter instrument. Gope's Light Surdos are made from specially selected lightweight materials, making them not only lighter but also easier to handle - perfect for dynamic performances. Once you’ve played one, you won’t want to change brand ever again! The concept? Reduce weight without compromising quality! This surdo is ideal for groups that include lot's of dance and choreography in their performances, for those who play their surdo above their head, or simply for sambistas who prefer to travel light. All components, such as brackets, rims and metal construction elements, are designed with lightweight construction. The slimmer elementns further reduce the weight, while the welded shell delivers a full, resonant sound. Compared to folded seams, the welded seam enhances the shell's vibration properties, resulting in a richer tone with more shell resonance.Despite its delicate design, this surdo holds its own against heavier models. While less weight can sometimes mean less durability, our years of experience have proven this design to be both reliable and robust.
Surdo light, practical 50cm intermediate size for all styles 18'' x 50cm, aluminium - black hardwareBe kind to your back - get a lightweight surdo! A half-height surdo 10cm shorter than the 60cm standard surdos - how would you even notice that? Believe us - you will. Sound-wise, there won't be much of difference. For Samba de Enredo fans, a few hundred grams are often a great relief, especially if you are out walking long parades or putting in long rehearsal hours. And maybe the surdo will now fit better in your car or the storage in your rehearsal space Not to mention how just a little less weight will feel when you got your surdo in a bag on your back riding a bike to rehearsal. Besides, you will thank the god of Samba no later than at your next 4-hour carnival parade for not carrying the same 6kg steel sheet model your band mate has.The light line surdos from Gope are built with lightweight hardware components and thin aluminium sheet. Musically speaking, you could also call them compact surdos. Once you have tried them, you will never let them go again. The design principle is quite clear: save weight without sacrificing sound. If you do a lot of parades, dance choreographies or if you simply don't like to carry a heavy surdo, then an intermediate size model is a worthwhile idea. The lugs, the rim and flat rim elements are all of lightweight construction, the tension hoops are slim and light. The shell is welded at the seam, which gives the body a higher vibration component in the sound, as the shell is not interrupted by a folded seam.Tip:Gope surdos come with thin P2 heads from the factory. Especially for larger sizes or if you don't like overtones, we recommend getting a thicker superior head to play on (P3 or any double-layered). Take your time when tuning and breaking the drum in, so that the heads can stretch well and settle on the rim of the shell. This way you will get the best sound out of your surdo.

8'' natural skin – cuica replacement hide head with bamboo stick in aluminum rim by Gope8'' cuica head with pre-installed bamboo stick, ready to play!Tips for cuica skins:Natural hides are delicate.

20 '' wood surdo with nylon heads
Gope has transfered its light-weight concept of aluminium surdos to light, warm sounding wood surdo. 50 cm surdos can be basically used for any style. Wood surdos are especially nice for stage gigs, Pagodes, Samba de mesa and small ensembles as their warm, soft sound goes especially well with harmonie instruments. But also in Rio's Samba schools you may notice an increasing number of 50 cm surdos. This series is well made, the shells are made of light-colored plywood, the hardware contains a black hoop and 10 galvanised lugs.
The producer Gope from near São Paulo is known for their long tradition of building instruments, extremely light hardware and a large range of percussion instruments.
Light-weight waxed wood tamborim, frame height 50 mm The frame wood is unusually thick (aprox. 12 mm) which is a good base for the head to sit on and which also lies very comfortably in the hand. The wood is light, due to the waxed finish and only 6 tension hooks it almost snuggles into your playing hand. Wood generally has a soft and pleasant touch as well as a warmer sound.
Short wood timbal 14'' x 70 cm with 6 tension hooks - warm sound and lower tuning70 cm timbals are perfect for shorter sambistas, youngsters and kids. They are light and easy to carry. This one has a comfort rim and good quality light hardware - just like the tall timbals. 70cm hand drum for street Samba, Samba Reggae blocos, indoor and outdoor gigs! Timbaleiros who prefer the warmer sound of wood instruments are just right here. The timbal has 6 lugs and a wood shell, we recommend this instrument for lower, not too tense pitching. The timbal has a lovely warm bass and slaps sound just right in the mid frequencies. The hardware is black, plates and comfort rim come in the typical Gope design.
Bacurinha 8'' x 20 cm, aluminium - Samba Reggae style mini-repiniqueThe bacurinha is a tiny repinique, which has become quite popular, especially in the famous bloco of Timbalada in Salvador. The are basically built the same way as standard-size repiniques, only two sizes smaller. Due to its smaller diameter it sounds a lot higher, almost like a tamborim. A bacurinha brings fresh and different sound colour to your Samba Reggae bloco and is a nice supplement to the classical set of instruments you´ll find in an afro-Samba combo. Bacurinhas have become really popular in Samba Reggae blocos all over Europe.Small-sized, very compact and fun-to-play repinique with a smart, matt brushed aluminium shell and black hardware. Light-weight 8'' mini-repinique by Gope.
9'' allrounder CuicaIt’s not just the dancers who light up when a cuica joins in! This little friction drum brings singing, squeaking or whining tones into your bateria or Samba Pagode - adding loads of character and a playful, unmistakable sound. This lightweight 9'' cuica by Gope, a trusted maker from the São Paulo area, features a welded aluminum shell, a natural skin mounted on an aluminum ring, and powder-coated black hardware. Like all Gope instruments, the shell is welded at the seam - which enhances resonance and gives the drum a fuller, more vibrant tone as the body can vibrate more freely. With just an inch less in diameter than a 10'' cuica, the overall volume and tone ist quite similar and depends more on the shell’s material and build. That’s exactly where Gope shines: lightweight, sturdy, and great-sounding - perfect for anyone looking for a reliable cuica that's ready for the bateria but won’t weigh you down.
Alu Timbal 14'' x 90 cm with 16 hooks, yellow - GopeStylish and longlasting powder coating and strong sound, perfect for stage and street gigs!Gope focuses on lightweight construction and uses slightly thinner aluminum for the shells compared to other brands. This makes even 16-hook timbals well-suited for long rehearsals and street parades – easy to handle and comfortable to carry. Despite the extra hardware, the instrument remains manageable and impresses with powerful sound and sleek design.Timbaleiro Trend for Bahia and Rio Vibes!16-hook timbals can be tuned extra high! The additional tension hooks and reinforcement elements distribute the pressure more evenly across the shell, making even extreme tunings possible. This results in rich bass tones and crisp slaps. Compared to wood, aluminum adds a sharper, more defined sound while offering practical advantages: it’s low-maintenance, weather-resistant, and durable. The shell is welded at the seam, allowing for better resonance and a fuller sound.A timbal that stands out with high-quality craftsmanship, powerful sound, and modern design!
Aluminium timbal 14'' x 90 cm with 16 hooks, model DIDÁ - GopeRed is the colour of the Banda Feminina Didá, a female-only bloco afro for women in Salvador, founded in 1993. The band is surrounded by a strong social network which has been facilitating education for women and children for many years. Besides Samba Reggae, the organisation also teaches dance, singing, artisanal work and various other skills. Gope has dedicated this line to Didá and we are happy to be able to have it in our range for you.Timbaleiro trend from Salvador da Bahia: timbals with 16 tension hooks can be pitched up really high! The hooks spread the pression equally on the shell of the drum, like this your shell will not suffer any damage, even with the highest tuning. Nice, deep bass sound and crispy slaps are a nice to have with aluminium instruments, the whole sound has the typical sharp note. Aluminium instruments are pretty easy to maintain, weather doesn't harm them much and they are robust. The seam of the body is welded. Welded shells produce a higher and more audible part of shell sound due to more constant vibration, Gope welds all its instruments. The hardware and the comfort rim match the red colour of the shell.Keep in mind - more hardware means more weight!
Let the carnival begin!
8'' pandeiro with animal head - compact little travel buddy
An inexpensive and good-sounding travel pandeiro! 8'' is the right size for people with small hands or if you just want to have a compact instrument with you when you are on holidays. This pandeiro also works for Capoeira, for kids or simply for session playing - we can't think of any reason against a small pandeiro that fits in every handbag! Beginners often don't yet want to invest much, a small pandeiro offers a first impression and is also suitable if you are on a tight budget. It is light and rustically made, has a pretty hide head and black hardware. Rustical sound qualities through steel sheet jingles.
Beautiful Samba Pagode wood surdo 18'' x 60cm with legsetWood surdos generally have a warmer, more haptical sound. Other than the sharp sound of aluminium shells which is to all intents and purposes for street Samba, musicians and lovers of Samba de Mesa - the indoor Samba version with more wood and hide head instruments - usually prefer instruments with warmer sound qualities which they find with wood shells. Gope has created quite a beauty with this surdo, the shell is solid and well made from laminated wood, the batter head is a hide head with aluminium rim, the resonance head is a thin nylon head. The legset can be mounted for gigs or taken off easy and quick for transportation.Weight:without legset: 6,8 kgwiith legset: 8,1 kgTip:For even better sound quality and stability on stage, we recommend to add the surdo feet shock absorbers (art.nr. A601200) which you can simply slip on the feet of the legset.
8“ GP3 bacurinha / pandeiro head (P3 - 250 Micron: 0,25mm) - GOPEGP3 heads are thick, single-layered synthetic heads with a saturated sound, medium bass character and very little overtones. They produce a full, strong and almost matt tone due to their thickness and vibration behaviour - thick heads vibrate less than than thin heads. A special feature of the GP3 heads is the distance between the aluminium rim and and the surface of the head which is larger, compared to other brands, meaning that the head will settle well on your instrument shell straight away.Resonance head or batter head?GP3 heads are ideally used as batter heads. For a resonance head, a thinner option will vibrate stronger and in combination with a GP3 batter head produce a nicer sound.Take some time:The life career of a head begins with the moment you put it on your drum for the first time. Each time you tune it, the head will fit itself more comfortably onto the rim of shell being the base for the head. Also in terms of sound, time has an effect on every head. New heads often sound a bit whiny when freshly fitted onto the drum. But after a short break-in time and regular playing, the sound will quickly improve. A new head also will lift the rim higher. Each time you tune your drum, the head will sit itself lower down on the base and the rim can settle. In short:New head - high rim, whiny sound. After a break-in time - low rim, nice sound.

22“ hydraulic head - double ply oil head - batter head
Due to their thickness and sound characteristics, heads with two plies naturally only function as batter heads.
This head will be interesting for you if you like the following sound characteristics:- warm, deep, punchy and short sounds- sustain: very little to none- overtones reduced to a minimum- quick decay (the dropout of the tone from its maximum to 0)- with surdo heads: nice and warm but not too resounding bass tones, short, fat and warm- slow attack, doesn't sound too sharp
Replacement hide head 6'' with aluminium rim for Samba de Mesa tamborim
Information about mounting hide heads:Natural heads tend to twist when they are unmounted due to different air humidity and temperature. When you are ready to put the head on your instrument and see that it is twisted, moisten (not soak!) the head carefully with a kitchen sponge, then put it on a flat surface and push the drum shell in the rim from above. Put your drum loosely back together and wait until the head is dry before putting any tension on it. Let it dry slowly in the air (best overnight), don't use heaters, hairdryers and don't leave it in the sun as it will make the head brittle and prone to tear.
Information for hide heads on aluminium rims:Natural heads tend to twist when unmounted, especially with when temperature and humidity changes. This can happen as well with heads on wood rims as with skins in aluminium rims. The aluminium hoops are grouted in a way that leaves a small open joint gap. This is not a defect nor a broken seam, but a tiny tolerance which is there on purpose so that the head can expand or tighten without damaging the hoop or the head when air moisture changes. If you have received a twisted head with an open gap on the aluminium rim, then that is quite normal and with only a few steps the head will easily fit on your instrument shell: Slightly moisten the head, wait a couple of minutes, then fit it on the shell and put your instrument back together loosely. Only put tension on the head once it has dried completely and in a natural way; this will usually take overnight. As soon as there is tension on the head, wrinkles and the twist will disappear and the head will easily adjust to the shape of the instrument shell. If you have any questions about mounting a head, please contact us.
Purchasing replacement heads:If you are buying a replacement head for your instrument, we advise that you get a head from the same brand as your instrument as they should fit without any trouble. If you buy a head from a different brand, you might find that the fit slightly differs or even doesn't go on the shell well or at all. Please understand that we cannot offer warranty in this case.

Surdo light Dobra 18''x40cm aluminium HW chromed
Atabaque 120 cm - Rum (biggest size, lowest voice) with wood standAtabaques are commonly found in Candomblé - the ritual drumming of Brazil's heritage. The traditional Brazilian hand drums are usually played in a set of three voices: Lê , Rumpi , Rum. But also in Capoeira or in Samba de Roda one can find atabaques. In the set, this atabaque is a Rum, the largest size used for the lowest voice. The atabaques are solidly built and can be used for many different music styles. A simple wooden shell and carefully picked skins in the right strength help feature the atabaque's typical warm and open sound.A simple wooden stand comes with the instrument.Dimensions:Instrument height without stand: approx. 127cmInstrument height with stand: approx. 139cm_____Resetting Atabaque Rings – A Quick GuideTemperature and humidity fluctuations (e.g., indoor heating in winter) can cause the wood to shrink, loosening the rings on your atabaque – this is normal and easy to fix.How to reset the rings:✔ Tools: A flat old file or a piece of hard wood (e.g., oak) and a small hammer.✔ Technique: Work from top to bottom (from the smaller towards the larger diameter), positioning the tool at a fairly vertical angle, almost parallel to the atabaque’s body, to avoid damage. Tap the ring evenly all around. Do not force or tilt too much – the ring should remain parallel to the ground. The better the contact with the body, the more stable the tension. Why is this necessary?Resetting rings is a traditional technique from barrel-making – just like old beer or wine barrels, where metal rings need to be tapped back into place when the wood dries.Gaps between the staves? If the Atabaque shrinks and the rings come loose, tension is lost, causing gaps between the staves. Resetting the rings restores stability and keeps the body together.

Compact rebolo 10'' x 45 cm, Gope - Special Design Colour Selfie CherryA rebolo is the heart and soul of every Pagode ensemble. The small bass drum is often played in combination with the larger and lower tuned tantan. You can use a rebolo for a lot of things. From jam sessions to professional Pagode performances - this rebolo looks stunning on stage and has a lot to offer in terms of sound! 10'' is more of a compact size for rebolos, hide heads are particularly popular in Brazil; they require a little more technical know-how than the soft korino heads, but the sound result will reward you.
Zabumba with beautiful wood shell 20'' x 20 cm - seperate tuning systems on each sideThe heartbeat and soul of each Forró ensemble! The zabumba gives the pulse and pushes the swing with its contra rhythms. Together with a triangle, accordion and lyrics, nobody can resist to dance to Forró! Gope has built a traditional modell with a modern design. The shell is made of layered plywood with a laminated wood finish in a natural tone. The finish goes beautifully with the brass connecting sleeves and the chromed lugs. You can tune each side of the zabumba through seperate hooks. The playing side has a nylon head, the bottom side has a thinner resonance head. Ready for your next Forró?
Surdo light, practical 50cm intermediate size for all styles 22'' x 50cm, aluminium - black hardwareBe kind to your back - get a lightweight surdo! Besides, you will thank the god of Samba no later than at your next 4-hour carnival parade for not carrying the same 6kg steel sheet model your band mate has.
The light line surdos from Gope are built with lightweight hardware components and thin aluminium sheet.
The shell is welded at the seam, which gives the body a higher vibration component in the sound, as the shell is not interrupted by a folded seam.
Tip:Gope surdos come with thin P2 heads from the factory.
