Wood or aluminium?

In most of the cases people prefer rebolos with a wooden body. The material also matters when playing on the shell with the left hand. The sound of wood is generally warmer than aluminium. Instruments made of aluminium are lighter. Aluminium rebolos also come cone-shaped.

Korino head or goatskin head?

A lot of the korino head sound is bass. But the head doesn´t respond so easy. Goatskin heads respond easily, sound warm but have to be retuned quite often, as they de-tune quickly, especially due to temperature changes. Rebolos with goatskin heads are very common in Rio.
