Repique Mor 14'' x 50 cm
Colloquially called the 'thick cigar' (charuto), the 14'' repique mor is more of a loner in Europe, whilst in a Rio Samba bateria you might see several of them played together.
It has a 14'' diameter and also a higher shell, so it is two inches bigger than a regular 12'' repinique. The playing technique is pretty much the same. The charuto´s sound is deep and not as dingling as a normal repinique. Played well it brings a totally beautiful soundscape to your bateria. The sound is somewhere between a repinique and a high pitched surdo, an absolutely unique frequency which comes through especially when playing calls and solo parts in the bateria.
Stylish repique mor and typical IVSOM design with yellow galvanised hardware.
Beautiful instrument with a present sound.
The solid aluminium shell as well as all technical details are in well-established IVSOM quality. The tension rods are screwed down flush with the fittings in the ring. Smoothed out rims for ideal skin fitting, tension hoops, threads etc. are neatly manufactured.
Amongst others, IVSOM provides the sambaschool Mocidade Independente de Padre Miguel in Rio de Janeiro with his instruments. Being a mechanic and a sambista himself, he has ideal knowledge and abilities for building high quality Samba instruments.

IVSOM in Brazil
IVSOM is a producer of authentic Samba instruments in Rio de Janeiro. The brand name is a wordplay with his own name which is Ivson, and the Braziliain word for sound which is 'som'. Before becoming self-employed, Ivson absolved a profound formation in the metalworking craft sector. Ivson has been an active sambista for many years. He plays caixa for Mocidade, his wife and business partner Luciana plays the chocalho. Therefore he is very close to his clients and knows exactly, what is in demand. Ivson actively participates in the production of his instruments and makes excellent-quality instruments in a very well organized workshop. Some of Rio´s major Samba schools play his instruments. Quite frecuently Ivson surprises us with new features and innovations. Due to his close contact to the Samba scene, he is often the first to convert buzzing ideas and or incitations into useful inspiration for making new instruments. The IVSOM 'vasado' caixas and repiniques created the trend of instruments without bodies.
IVSOM in Europe
IVSOM instruments have gained high recognition amongst Hardcore Rio Sambistas in Europe within the last couple of years. Especially their good workmanship and the excellent sound of the drums have attracted the percussionist´s attenention over here. The number of IVSOM fans is growing larger each year.
Percussion instrumens
IVSOM drums have a couple of untypical characteristics. For example, the tension rods are flush with the rim. This link is very stable and absolutely free of rattling noises, but a bit more time-consuming in its montage. The surdos have a neat detail concerning the rims of the body where the head rests. The body´s wall is rimmed around a 10 mm flat bar. With this the corpus is a lot more stable than other bodies where wire is used for reinforcement. Like this the drums obtain a smooth and flat rim for ideal head fitting. IVSOM´s reference product is the rocar..

The sound is fantastic and the delivery was quick, very happy with my purchase.
très bon instrument, des harmoniques qui font ressortir le son dans une gamme de fréquences permettant d'occuper un nouvel espace sonore, très agréable à jouer pour les avancés en répique
Fairly overpriced for an item that is built the same as the standard version but taller. I don't think that doubling the price is justifiable... maybe would be better priced at €120. Luckily overall I like it... it's got a good weight, it's size and number of tuning lugs makes it easier on the hands although the rim is quite high and causes problems on the knuckle joints like hyper extension when striking the drum.
dear customer, thank you for your feedback! The rim will settle, it is normal that nylon heads are a bit high in the beginning, they need to stretch and settle on the shell. Keep tuning the instrument and after a few rehearsals the rim will lower. With some practise and good playing technique you won't have any problems and we're sure your'll enjoy this high-quality drum.
everithing ok, yeah baby everithing ok
