Forró - the magical musical northeast of Brazil

Languages: Portuguese - English

The northeast of Brazil offers such a variety of beautiful and exciting music styles that combine all the elements of Brazilian tradition. Forró combines percussion, harmonies, singing, tradition, dance and musical passion. A book for everyone who wants to learn, play and learn Forró!

Carlos Sandroni, Professor of Ethnomusicology at the Institute of Music at the University of Pernambuco:
The new edition of the Batuque Book Collection on the radio history of the Forró - with DVD containing songs by Luiz Gonzaga feat. Dominguinhos, Maciel Melo, Herbert Lucena and Gennaro, interviews, a video lesson, song material and rhythm patterns for all participating instruments.
The author, Climério de Oliveira, is currently doing his PHD in ethnomusicology on the subject of Forró. The close collaboration with Forró musicians enabled him to use an extraordinary method of research: 'shared listening'. In order to shed light on the complex aspects of this music and analyse important assessments of the Gonzaga Forró, the author selected a jury for the analyses. He presented the topic to highly specialized musicians in the form of historical recordings and then brought everyone to the same table. The reader of this book can now enjoy his fantastic results.
